Den Roy Tokunaga
This hybrid is a cross between 2 New Guinea latouria dens (Den johnsoniae x Den atroviolaceum). Both species are evergreen & have very long lasting flowers: johnsoniae, 2-3 months; atroviolaeum, 3-4 months. This hybrid also has very long-lived flowers, about 3 months or more. The latouria dens have a great tolerance for different temps, lighting & moisture levels. But they prefer warm to intermediate, with medium to bright light, with good drainage but abundant watering.
In warmer climates, plants generally bloom from late November into March. In temperate & cooler climates, blooms start in February and extend through April into May. Plants bloom from about 10" tall. They will eventually grow to 18"-24" with many canes & flowers.

beautiful!
I got my first latouria dens last winter, one being a cross of this one. Roy Tokunaga x Silver Wings. It was in bloom for over 3 months.
They are all spiking now! I'm just thrilled I love how they look, and seem to be quite easy to grow and bloom, so I am sure there will be more in the future!

Hi Harry,
This cross grows too tall for me at 18"+. Which of the Latouria Dendrobium hybrids stay under 12"? Are there any?

I love those flowers. Your plant looks so healthy.
I, too have a latouria den. Pam Tajima. I have read that they need a rest. Did you rest yours and when and how?

I know this question wasn't directed at me, but here are some more petite ones
atroviolaceum v pygmy - only about 4"
aberrans
aussie chip (atrovialaceum x aberrans)
I'm sure there are others that people will post
while my roy tokunaga x silver wings is tall, it is in a 4" pot and actually takes less space than 4" miltonias cos there isn't tons foliage

Mine were not rested. Kept evenly moist year round. All are spiking now.

A number of the earlier latouria den hybrids were spectacular, but some were rather large. Many newer hybrids, as well as the improved versions, are much smaller & more manageable.
Aussie's Chip (named by an Aussie, but remade by us), atroviolaceum 'Pygmy', Mini Snowflakes, Maiden Charlotte are 8" or less. Nora Tokunaga, Big Alex (alexandrae x bigibbum ... not because it's big), Andree Millar (compact type remake) ... about 10-12". Bushy rather than tall.
All share the common traits of ease of growth & long lived flowers.

Den. atroviolaceum is an awesome small plant. Here is mine in bloom last year.
It's in bloom again this year and there are even more flowers than last year! Mine is also the pygmy variety and I got it from H&R. It's only about 8" from the bottom of the pot to the top of the plant.
Catwalker, you've probably answered this before, but what's the name of your greenhouse, and do you have a website?
