This is dedicated to Kevin McFarlane of Cairns, Australia, who passed away on December 2, 2009 at the age of 87. Kevin was an avid orchid hobbyist and breeder who was noted for breeding novelty Dendrobium plants. He was a pioneer on striped dendrobiums. One of his more popular crosses was Den. Candy Stripe. Two varieties, 'Lahaina' and 'Kodama', were well known in Hawaii. These were mericloned and appeared in many people's collection. I had several plants of both varieties. Unfortunately, they all disappeared with time. This is a photo I took around 1985 using slide film. I converted the slide into a digital format using a film scanner.
So I have another noid, but at least I know it's a candy stripe. Thanks for setting me in the right direction. I love, love, love it---the ultimate compliment (?) came from the clerk that sold it to me. She said ,"It's so beautiful that it doesn't look real." LOL,
