Default Den Taskin Utopai x Taskin Mary Caine

So this is interesting. The first 2 pictures are of the bloom when I first got it (February 2009). The rest are the blooms today (Jan 2, 2010).

The orchid came from Incredible Orchids (Brian) - I'm pretty sure he is still an OB member. I think he is located in Seattle and I am in Memphis, TN.

Anyway I wanted to post where he is located because when I got the orchid, it was blooming a pink/white color and when it re-bloomed day before yesterday the color is fuchsia.

I have seen big color variations due to pH with my Hydrangeas but have never personally experienced it with orchids. Has anyone here experienced such a large color variation?

I am located in Memphis, TN which is supplied water from the Memphis aquifer beneath Shelby County. It contains more than 100 trillion gallons of water that are more than 2000 years old. According to the orchid experts in my local OS, the water is pretty darn near perfect.

Not that I don't like the color, but I liked the original color better.

It's still a beauty.

Edited to add: This might actually be Den Taksin Utopai x Taksin Mary Caine...someone might have transposed the letters.

I don't know what to tell you, but I love the deeper color!!! Quite a change, huh? Wish I could tell you why, but I don't have a clue.

I have found variations in temperatures and light intensity from one bloom cycle to another can result in very different looking flowers. It's sure pretty! I like the deeper color better myself.

I've seen a big variation in my Den Phal hybrid this year. Not so much in the actual colour, rather in the ratio of white to pink (it had FAR more pink this year).

Not sure what has caused it in yours, but I love the dark purple of it this year.
