New Dendrobium

Hi,

Just purchased a "dendrobium" from walmart (was $8).

It was very dry when I purchased it but seems in good health, I am a little confused as to the type, I don't think its a den phal, but I could be confused.

Also I am a bit confused on the way it is potted.

It is in a ceramic pot with no drainage. Usually when I buy orchids (phals) they are in a clear plastic pot.

I am wondering if I should re pot it in a clear plastic pot with drainage holes and orchid mix or should I leave it??

The flowers look like a Den phal Hybrid to me but I can't be certain.

If it's in a pot without holes then I think you should repot. My Den's are not in clear pots but they ARE in pots with holes in the bottom.

Watering any orhcid correctly without holes in the pot is very difficult and not recomended.

The flowers are very tiny compared to my Phals, they are also straight up (the picture is sideways).

Would It help if I took a picture just of the flower?
Of the entire plant?

Is there anything special I should do or know for re potting. that would be different from a phal?

Definately repot it into one with drainage holes. Hopefully it still has good roots.

I have this same Den. I had it for a couple of years before it bloomed for me. I was very surprised when it did bloom since I had no idea what color the blooms would be. I love the pure white blooms. Mine is in bloom right now.

It is very pretty and mine is very tall compared to the others I have

Is yours a Den X Phal??

Greenmom you know I am not sure. The spike is coming from the very top of the cane. I am not to savy on types of orchids.

Mine are a little different but very similar.

The only difference is the flower.

I wish there was an easier way to identify, or at least the plants had the proper identification when you buy them in the stores. No wonder people have trouble keeping orchids alive... its hard when you don't have the correct care information, or even the right name for the plant.
