Dendrobium loddigesii and its tenants - Orchid Board

Dendrobium loddigesii is a well known orchid. Here in Brazil it grows well and requires absolutely no care.

But, look at who decided to set family in the pot!! Three hungry mouths are always waiting for bugs that their parents bring from early in the morning until late in the afternoon! This is the Tico-tico (Zonotrichia capensis), a well-known bird here.
The second and third photos show the diligent mother (I presume! based on the vigorous way she protects her babies, you know, mother stuff!!)

wow... that's gorgeous... Mauro, I love the Zonotrichias.. in Venezuela they are called "Correporsuelo" ("run on the floor/ground")... they are very common, and one of the most interesting thing about this species is that they have geographical dialects. It is possible to from which region the bird comes only by listening to its song

by the way, the Dendrobium is also very nice

Awesome plant and birds Mauro, thanks for the pics. My question is how do you water the den? Very carefully I would imagine, or do you have a built in system in your greenhouse and the birds just don't seem to mind?

I water it normally, Brenda and they don't mind apparently. I noticed that while there were only the eggs, the female (or male?) didn't abandon the nest, carefully protecting them against the water. Now that the baby birds are bigger the female gets out of the nest allowing some water to reach the babies!
