Dendrobium rings - Orchid Board

I received a dendrobium as a gift and it now has yellow rings around the bulbs that appeared when I moved it to a brighter location. Is this a good thing or a dread orchid virus? I really don't have a clue as this is my first orchid ever!

Here is a picture of my Dendrobium, my teenagers helped me paste the photo, they can be useful! The big bulb seems to be cracking also. I'm not sure whether it is happy or not. Any advice will be appreciated.

Sandra,

This plant appears perfectly healthy. The rings are at the point where the outer sheath on the pseudobulbs attach to the plant, almost like skin on an onion. They naturally dry up. Don't worry, all is well.

Your plant looks fine

I remove that sheath on all of mine. It gives the plant a neat look and eliminates a pest hiding place

Thanks! My dendrobium has one flower left and I think I should repot it after the flower goes, the bark is not quite mushy, but it breaks easily. Those roots that are sticking out the side, should I try my best to save them or be brutal and cut them off? Also, will that orchid mix at Home Depot work, or should I order something off the web? I'm going to try to make it to the Colorado Springs Orchid Society on the 24th. I have lots of questions!

You can repot with fresh medium, but I wouldn't change the pot size. That pot is still large for that size plant. They like crowding and often have roots outside pot.
