Kiki, I totally agree that USPS should be responsible for this mistake. But, as a seller, I have chosen to outsource my product delivery to USPS. If they won't make it right then I should as the seller. The buyer should not be penalized.

I can say I would definitely like to know the outcome of this as I have purchased many things from Incredible Orchids and have been very satisfied but I can say that if the policy is to let the buyer eat the loss than I won't anymore.

I think businesses, no matter how small have to consider these types of things as the cost of doing online sales.

Please keep us informed of the outcome.

I once stood at a window and watched as the mail guy pulled up to my box I thought he would pull in the drive with the package (Silly Me ) he left a tried to deliver slip in the box , went to town and picked it up he had already beat feet so I could not (Talk) to him .
UPS leaves things across the street , Fed X has been good till the last delivery they left it across the street . My house number is on the chain link fence in big letters guess they can't see or read ..

I can't hold the seller responsible for the postal service screw up. He sent me the confirmation number and as far as everyone is concerned, that confirmation number protects him from any liability and proves he sent it when that number/package gets electronically scanned at the post office and shows the tracking. It wouldn't be appearing in the system if he had not sent it...he's not responsible beyond this as far as I can see. I have been to the post office and they told me that they can't do anything because the package wasn't insured. I repeatedly told them that this was not delivered to my address....again, they said that without insurance, tuff luck! I stopped the postal carrier today and she said she'd look for it....Where would she look for it?...What a bunch of lip service. I've got a few more numbers to call as I don't plan on letting this go without knowing that I've done everything I could. This is soooooooooooo unfair!

So what is the POINT of track and trace if it's useless without insurance??? Those post office people are just too lazy to figure out what happened. And I thought the French post office system was bad. They're on strike all the time, but at least they do their job semi correctly.

Have you even contacted the seller? I still say it's the sellers responsibility to make sure you get what you paid for. Would you feel the same way if this was Amazon or Dell and you paid $1000 for something? Do you think you should buy insurance with those companies?

I sure sympathize with you Sandy. I'm not sure if this would work with USPS, but I will relay an incident I had not long ago with another carrier which will remain anonymous. I had a box of orchids shipped from Florida and received a routing # for it. I could follow it to their main distribution center and there, it mysteriously disappeared. After numerous calls to that center and going through numerous transfers and different people, I really blew my stack! I used a procedure some call "carpet bombing". I sent about a dozen emails (all the same) to the companies executives starting with the president right on down to VP's, district managers etc. I got a call at 7:00 AM from the executive secretary of one of the district VP's profusely apologizing and another call just past 9:00 AM saying the lost package had been found and was on it's way. I received the package early the next AM. I sure hope you are finally able to get your plant.

Sandy, I thought I would add one more thing eBay is changing their policy on shipping insurance. You can no longer offer it and this is the logic from eBay as quoted from their new sellers agreement.

'Optional buyer charges for shipping insurance removed: The insurance option creates the perception that buyers need to purchase shipping insurance as a protection on eBay, an experience they're not accustomed to on other ecommerce sites. In fact, sellers have always been responsible for their items until they arrive safely in their customers' hands. That's why shipping insurance will no longer be included in the purchase flow as either an option or requirement for buyers.

Of course you can choose to purchase insurance on shipments, but not ask buyers to buy insurance separately. In some categories like Antiques, Collectibles, and Jewelry, shipping insurance for sellers is essential. When appropriate, you can include the cost of insurance in your item or shipping price. '

One other thing to note is that if you purchase via Paypal, you purchase is guaranteed. One other thing to note is that IncedibleOrchids guarantees you will receive your plant. That state as much on their auctions.

UPDATE

After exhausting all efforts and waiting patiently for UPS to research the claim I filed on this missing package, I was informed that they would not do anything for me. They expressed their regret and frustration (ha!) that once a package is scanned as delivered, they hold no liability for anything further. It took numerous phone calls to them and their customer service to find out, virtually, nothing. They never returned my phone calls so I was on this endless mission with no recourse.

They also told me that even if this package was insured, it didn't protect me from claiming it "undelivered", that insurance protects the contents inside the package and not whether the package gets delivered.

When I got the final resolution (ha, again!) from UPS, I decided to contact incredibleorchids and update them as to all my failed efforts and what UPS had told me. I also reminded them that as a repeat customer, wouldn't they do anything for me. That day, I received an email from them acknowledging my past business with them and that they had intentions of getting in touch with me, that they wanted to send me another orchid from a shipment they had just received. The package was sent with a signature required slip. I just unpacked it. All's well that end's well....

Harry, thank you so much for pointing this out to me. I overlooked it and had I known this, I would have made a big deal about it in the beginning. Much appreciated!

If anyone who's read this far can help me further by looking up the culture for my new orchid, I'd be most grateful. The Latourias Dendrobiums are one of my favorites and I haven't been too successfull with them. In fact, I stink when it comes to caring for them. Will someone help me out with some care instructions????
