Natasha, hugs and kisses were just delivered! My girls aren't torties, they're calicos. Daffy, with the gold eyes, is a Persian and Lilly is a Heinz 57.
got ants, I devoted the entire patio (about 20 x 10). It faces north east....BUMMER!!!! I get fairly decent light in the spring/summer but it's blocked by another house on the east side. All my Catts are in the front of the house, hanging from 2 palm trees. I pay no attention to them now that they're out of site. Surprisingly though, my Brassovola's do well in that light...go figure! I grow mostly Bulbos, Dends and Phals with a few Onc's;
Where in Hollywood are you?

Sandy, you sound like my sister-in-law, but she never goes by the name Sandy (it's SANDRA). She also has a small area facing NE with another house right on the property line. It's a two story house at that.
Surprising the similarities. She only has one cat...lol
Anyhoos, it looks like you have all your orchids along the wall of your patio. Have you ever considered hanging them from the center? Or maybe building a plant pot rack in the center?
Really, sun should not be an issue for us unless it's too much of it. Then it's too much rain to boot.
I live just behind the Y west of 95 and south of Sheridan.

Natasha, I've heard the phrase 'heinz 57' in relation to animal breads before. I think it's basically the animal equivalent of a really complex hybrid NoID.

LOL, Heinz 57 is a steak sauce made here in the US with lots of unknown ingredients. I often refer to myself as a Heinz 57 variety....German, French Canadian, Dutch, and who the heck knows what else! In other words.... not pure anything!

I've always understood a slightly different explanation and maybe the steak sause is a new thing playing on the older phrase (I had never actually heard of the steak sauce, but looking online - boy do I wish we had it here ).
Heinz 57 varieties was an advertising slogan and product labelling used accross their range at one time. Implying that they had 57 varieties of products in their range (giving consumers a huge choice). My understanding was the the phrase Heinz 57 was used for animals to imply 'a bit of everything' because it had a bit of all the 57 varieties in it.
Googling Heinz 57 has come up with some interesting stuff, including the logo above and an explanation from Wikipedia (which as always I take wikipedia with a pinch of salt).
Heinz 57 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Heinz 57 is a shortened, popular form of the "57 Varieties" slogan" "In its early days, the company wanted to advertise the great number of choices of canned and bottled foods it offered for sale. Although the company had more than 60 products in 1892, the number 57 was chosen because the numbers "5" and "7" held special significance to Heinz."
But anyway... how did we get from Den. loddigessii to here

Rosie, Natasha, here in the states, Heinz 57 is a coined phrase to mean exactly as you've stated, Rosie....complex hybrids...when describing 4 and 2 legged creatures. And Terri, you're a complex hybrid, alright!
got ants, my first job in Fla. was on Taft St. in Hollywood. Used to take the Sheridan exit. I still haven't gotten down to the Hard Rock Cafe. I hear its a lot of fun.

wow, thanks for the lengthy explanation. in another word Lilly is a domestic shorthair. don't worry Lilly, i'm a hybrid too 50% chinese & 50% malay... and you have lots of pals in my house! and yeah, i never heard the slang!
btw, if short on space, i'll usually look upward, vertical means the wall & overhead means ceilings & beams. which means i still more space to buy more chids yey!

Rosie, here's what Heinz 57 means in American slang. It's not limited to humans as the definition might imply. It can be applied to just about anything from dogs and cats, to cars, to cans of beans.
Slang O’ The Day heinz 57
