Just found this blooming.
This is a mericlone called Den Enobi Purple 'Splash'. Don't know too much of background of plant. Flower variegation probably originated as a sport from the hybrid cross. This kind of flower variegation (chimera) does not usually come through in mericlones except in very low percentages. Usually clone flowers would be either all purple or all white, with very few with the variegations.

Oh I love it. Its a beauty. I have a Dtps. Minko Princess 'Watercolor Artist' that looks just like it.

Its got two spikes so I will post a photo when it blooms.
Didn't mean to hijack this thread.

zxy. A friend gave it to me because I like this sort of thing.
natasha. The flower is a chimera. That is, it has two kinds of different cells within the one flower. It differs from flares and blushes which are bred from parent plants which have the genetic background that produce those features. As I mentioned above, if you clone a plant with a regular flower, you will get an identical flower from the clones. On the other hand, with a chimera, it's like having cells (not genes) of 2 different flowers in one. So when the plant is cloned, the clones usually carry only one type of cells. In the case of the above flower, clones would usually separate into either white or purple (not both colors with the above patterns). Very rarely, some of the clones may resemble the original plant.
