Default I did it! Dendrobium parishii)

Hi y'all!

I got this little baby from Andy's about 4 years ago and have been waiting ever so patiently to smell that rasberry scent. Although it put out new growth, it has never bloomed until now. In fact, for about the last year it hadn't really done anything. Then, understanding that it was one of those orchids that needs a winter rest, I just stopped watering it for only about 3 weeks earlier this spring, and... miracles do happen!

Enjoy!

Holy cow that guy is small! Once the flower fades, you can water the bejezzez out of that plant and give it more fert than you think it can handle! That way next year you will have bigger canes and a ton of those great flowers. The color on yours look great BTW and dont you just love the fuzzy lip!

Yes I do love the fuzzy lip - and the scent!
And yeah, what you're saying about the water and the fert is exactly what Andy told me when I talked to him about this particular species last year. There is a new cane starting right now, so I'm going to try to pump that baby up for next year's blooms.
Thanks for the reply!

I love that fuzzy lip! What a beautiful little tiny dendro. Too bad we cannot share that raspberry scent online. Andy's sure has some interesting orchids. Carol

This particular one is very demanding when growing. WATER and FERTILIZER are a MUST. Be generous with these two guys up to beggining of November or so, then discontinue watering/Fert. until you see new grows in spring. Water just enough during dormancy to prevent shriveling of the canes. During dormancy it requires BRIGHT LIGHT don't get fool by the bare canes and think that if there aren't leaves it will not need light. And another fact very important is to provide low temps at night during dormancy (48 to 50 degrees F).
