Default Dendrobium crumenatum

I have a couple of these. One came from an OB trade (from Puerto Rico) and bloomed once before. The other came as a seedling from Carter and Holmes and is its first bloom! Both bloomed together, but the Carter and Holmes seedling has many more blooms and slightly fuller flowers. The smell was intense.

1 & 2 are from PR, 3 & 4 are form Carter and Holmes.

Hi Royal,

What do you have your Dendrobium crumenatum growing in? Just wait till it gets bigger!!!

I got a couple kiekis a few years ago in a pot...placed them in a 8" basket with who knows what mix and I kid you not it has gone crazy. I've given several kiekis away in a pot, they repotted in a basket and same thing. They seem to like lots of sunlight and water here. Mine is in the screened pool area with sun all day. It bloomed 2 1/5 weeks ago and I counted all the blooms when they faded and picked them off just to see how many there were. No lie....495 plus 2 large kiekis I mounted on my front palm tree gave me at least 75. I love these guys. All summer long following a thunderstorm I can count on their fantastic fragrance and beautiful white/yellow color. I don't care that they last only 1 day! Never cut off the dead looking canes..they put out more flowers and kiekis.

I'll post a picture if you want to see it.

They say it's the "Thunderstorm Orchid" and I'm really not sure if its the temp drop or the pressure change that triggers them to bud. Can't wait till the next time

The division from the OB member is mounted on a BIG piece of wood. The seedling is in a 4" basket.

500+ flowers sounds incredible! What a sight that must have been. I can't even imagine how strong that fragrance would be.

Definitly post a pic!

Oh, and how many days is 2 1/5 weeks?

Hmmm let me see...I wasn't very good at math maybe it's supposed to be two and a half weeks ago That's what happens when I try to hurry and get a post up and get out the door. Anyway here are the 2 pics. They were taken the day before they bloomed and I didn't get a shot when they did bloom. Usually I bring the whole basket in the house to enjoy for the day. I can never get more than a day out of them. The fragrance was really nice not too strong. Enjoy your guys while they last..and wait until the next thunderstorm....

i think i had this one when i was young. they used to colonised my grandparents "rambutan tree" a local fruit here in malaysia. it grew so big that my dad used it in many photo op. now only a small plant left after my dad cut down the palm tree the chid attached to. he gave away lots of divisions to his pals

These are beautiful Royal...and Lorraine...

The fragrance is fantastic...I know it is on mine. The trick is capturing them with the camera when they bloom...lasting just one day. Way to go Royal!

I'll post my pics if I get them the next time my little guy blooms.
