I really liked this orchid when I visited the San Diego Orchid Show in March, but they were really expensive. While I was shopping for Vanda yesterday, I asked the lady at the greenhouse if she has one of those.

She got so excisted and took me to the other greenhouse. I found them. She was about to give it to me, but I insisted on taking some $$$ since she already gave me a few plants.

I don't know anything about this orchid? Crazy, huh?

Can anybody give me a basic growing tip?

Congrats!! And wow, I have a D. speciosum var. curvicale and it looks so much different, those bulbs on yours are so fat and the leaves are to small! I have mine in a wood basket in moss and from what I've read these guys can be put in full sun. I can't do that since I have a balcony so I put it in the brightest spot possible.

Does 'full sun' mean that I can put this one outside facing West? I have a perfect spot for it.

Don't let it burn in the sun, yellowing is not a problem and give it very little water during winter, once or twice a week at most. Also, plenty of water & food when growing. They only flower off 2nd year canes, generally speaking. A good coarse open mix a pot 3 times the size its in now.

So, does this plant need to come out of the current pot immediately to allow it to grow?
