Default Dendrobium christyanum

Den. christyanum--The flowers only last about two weeks but it is still a nice miniature Dendrobium species IMO.

Gorgeous - and don't you love the scent? Mine is also blooming. Do you put yours through any seasonal rest? Mine seems to be blooming it's socks off with buds opening every 2 weeks, but no new growths and dropping leaves. I'm concerned and wondering whether I did something wrong with the watering or light. Any cultural tips would be appreciated.

"Do you put yours through any seasonal rest?"
Just reduce the water a little bit.

If yours blooms its socks off, you don't need my culture tips then. Please show us photos though.

Default christyanum...

Hi,

I have a Den. christyanum. i had it in the orchid tank for a while. it seemed to have a fungus and each time it put out a new growth the growth soon rotted

i repotted it and took it out of the orchid(arium) tank and almost gave up on it. i let it get very dry and almost forgot about it.
now it is putting out a new growth and getting regular attention.
and i am not putting it back in the tank for now...
i am not sure if it is blooming size? it is quite small.

Jason, good save!
Based on the look of the plant on photo, I am not sure if yours is Den. christyanum. Do you see any black hairs on the canes and leaves?
To answer your question--if yours is the normal variety Den. christyanum, it should be a blooming size plant. If it is the tall variety, it may need few more years to be BS.

Default NOT chrystianum

Tom,

You are right! it does not have the characteristic black hairs
but the bulbs Do have a white fuzziness though.

what is its specific name? I cant find it in my "dendrobium and its relatives book" or on IOSPE. but i recall having seen something about this variation somewhere

is it margaritaceum???
