This is the first blooming for this since I got it 3.5 years ago from Home Depot. It's the T5 fluorescent lighting that I started using early this summer. Look out Ross they are pretty intense up close with 4 lamps.

Ken, your photography is great, a wonderful closeup, the color is so deep. This is the first bloom after your T5 set-up.

That is too cool. The color is so intense!

For me it's a Dendrobium Sonia (maybe red var.) or Emma type. Try googling.

Some Dendrobium Sonia are similar and others the petals are not round enough. The tallest cane on mine would be be only about 9 inches and I think Dendrobium Sonia run from 22 to 28 inches so that seems to rule it out.

I have another NOID dendrobium which would be similar in color to Dendrobium Emma Red, it is in the 22 to 28 inch height but again the bloom is fuller/more rounded than Emma. The second bloom back is closer to the very dark color of this one, even the backside of the bloom is dark on this one.

It seems nearly impossible to figure out these Den and Phal hybrids. Thank for your input.

Wish our HD would bring some in....I've only ever had one dendrobium and that was years ago. I wouldn't mind giving them another try. Its hard to beat that bright colour!

Ken, is this image under the T5s as well? I agree they are bright! Got mine set up yesterday and am trying to dial in my mist king system for proper humidity without drowning plants! Had to add a small fan at one end of tank above glass to cool down the tank - there is actually a bit of heat coming off the bulbs.

Ross, the first picture was taken inside with sun shining on plant. The second picture was taken outside in summer.

Ross, maybe you should have a sticky post with advice on how to get the best from your digital camera. I find they have a mind of their own when it comes to interpreting color. Taking photos of our treasured ones is an important issue.

The T5 bulbs do get quite warm and they also radiate a fair bit of heat as well. My bench temp would be about 2 to 3 degrees F above ambient at nearly 3 feet under lamps.
