Default All Doubt Removed

I have enjoyed the threads concerning nobile Dendrobiums with regards to kikis or buds. With these, there is now no doubt. Not a great blooming but they are kinda small right now.

Very nice, Jerry. Really like your choices.

Are you growing these in s/h? Mine isn't doing well this year...only 4 buds out of 5 canes and one of the canes has rotted.

Yeah Sandy, all are in S/H. I moved them to S/H using Hydroton and all are in either16 or 32 oz containers. I was quite surprised that in just a few weeks the new roots were at the bottom of the containers!! I wasn't sure just how to treat them for winter but went ahead and stopped watering them in early October and didn't start again until about mid February. I was amazed that even being quite dry that long, some did not lose a leaf!!!! I'm not sure I understand what is happening with that. The humidity in my greenhouse is usually (too) high so maybe that made a difference. I will have to ask Ray.
Thanks everyone for the nice comments, but I'm still not very proud of this blooming. Should be lots more flowers. Maybe next year!!!

Hi Jerry

Your blooms are beautiful!

I am glad you brought this up. Some of these hybrids have complex genetics. I too had a Den. Super Ise hybrid in SH that was full of bloom and did not even give it a dry rest, just tapwater from the end of October. I had to give it away because I will not able to lift it with this years growth.

I took off a keiki 5 months ago and put it in water culture with 120ppm Nitrogen just to get it started. To my surprise it is blooming now with larger blooms than the one that starved. Here is the picture. The second picture is of the mother plant in SH before I gave it away.

Thanks for the info Jerry. I'm going to transfer mine over to s/h when time appropriate. Not giving up....

Marie, as always, I'm drooling over your success, here. Outstanding!

OH MY!!!! Now that, Sun RM is what I call a real nobile Dendrobium. I knew that the majority of the newer hybrids do not require the cool temps, but wasn't sure about the water. I ask this question last fall and can't remember now what the consensus was. Anyway, I flushed them good with plain tap water and then quit watering. I expected all of them to be decidious but was surprised when some didn't lose so much as a single leaf! Ironically, I had a seedling of Dendrobium primulinum that I did water all winter and it shed it's leaves right along with the ones here that lost their leaves. Must be that day/night length and/or temperature differential plays an important part.
Once again, the pictures are fantastic!!
