mystery rescues - any ideas? Female
Question mystery rescues - any ideas?

so these have been chilling in a pot of sphagnum, i put them with my other dendros and ignored them & they started to sprout keikis! so now i am at a loss of what to do with them. I know the babies need longer roots before i separate them, but the roots on these rescues are non existant or dead and paper like.

I would love some ideas on what to do with them. Was thinking of mounting two other dends, (one is already mounted) but i don't think these would do well mounted at this point.

please take a look and let me know. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Sara. The only Keiki you have is in picture number 3 at the tip of the cane. All the rest are new canes the main plant is sending up. I'd pot them up and see what happens. Most sympodial plants will not grow new roots from old pbulbs or canes but rather from any new growth it sends up. Your plant is trying. Don't give up on it.

I would agree with Terri, it looks like new canes growing on most of them. I would give these a chance and pot them up. Don't give up on them

I agree. This is the perfect time of year to pot these up. Dends are waking up now, it's the beginning of their growing season when they'll start putting out new growth and roots. I would pot this and begin watering now. Give it plenty of light.

Good luck!

thanks so much!
should i mount them or pot them in bark, or clean the dead roots and sphag n bag them? I read a post with very interesting results using that technique. maybe it would help them develop new roots.
thanks for the input
i really appreciate it

Unless you have the time to water every day I wouldn't suggest mounting. Dens can get really big and outgrow their mount PDQ. I'd pot them. No need to Sphag N Bag, as the old growths won't grow new roots anyway, and you're more likely to rot the new growth. Your best bet is to pot and wait.
