Large Keikie but no roots! - Orchid Board

Hmmh!
can any of you help my dendrobium has produced 4 large keikie but only one has slight roots. Seems to have been like this for ages now.

Wow, I think it's time you repot that! Maybe the media has broken down and is not let air flow around the roots

I asked 2008/2009 about repotting and most members said as it was happy leave it. I had already taken it out of the pot, hence the tape and it sitting proud of the top of the pot. Oh well back to repotting. Thank you. There are some pics in my gallery of the dend out of the pot.

Those are some very healthy looking roots in that photo in your gallery. The entire plant looks great.
Wish all my den roots looked so good.

I brought this dend back last year. It has small flower heads but very sweet smelling. When I brought it, something had been chewing it although I could not see anything. Then a couple of months later I caught the culprit a caterpillar. Got rid of him and now it seems ok except for a couple of split leaves.

OMG the keikei with tiny roots fell off. Dont know if I have done the right thing but have got a tiny pot of orchid compost, put a stake in it and dipped the keikei roots in rooting compound and tied to the stake with the roots just touching the compost

Sounds as if you did the right thing. Be patient, don't give up on the keiki. Sometimes they take a long while to start their own roots.

Just needed reassuring as the keikeis are approximately 6-9 inches long.

My keikei is bigger enough and got blooms even .
With few roots I think they get food by mother plant.
