Default Dendrobium Charm

Chinsai x unicum. 2nd year of blooms for this one. Plant more than doubled size in one year. 4 canes when i got it, put out 9 last spring.

Dave, this Dend's gorgeous...I think I have to have one. Do the flowers bloom off old canes as well? Does this one require complete winter rest? What do you have it potted in?

The flowers only bloom off the new growths. I do give it a winter rest. I let it get and stay pretty dry, only occasionally watering thru the winter. Its in a clay pot (added weight to help keep it upright), using a std bark mix, medium grade with charcoal and sponge rock added. These plants can be grown mounted, as they are quite pendulous. Once the new growths get going, i begin watering as normal. Quite heavily w fertilizer thru the summer. I grew it outside until it dropped below the 50s under mostly dappled sun / shade of trees.

What a beautiful color!!! I dunno if you're not supposed to do this for some reason, but have you ever considered staking the canes? It might make seeing the flowers a little easier
