Ross I have probably asked you this before, but what medium are yours potted in and what lighting are you providing yours? I never new they only spiked from the top, thanks for the info! So what do you do with the keikis, take them off before they develop?

Lots of questions Mine are potted in fine fir bark just for drainage. Most of the roots seem to want to grow on outside of pots, but the pots are definitely potbound (remember Adam (Stonedragonfarms) who also grows these, except he grows them cold, stated they must be potbound to do well. I typically try to keep both plants up at 1800 foot-candles, but I noticed when I moved Matsushima down to approx 800 foot candles, the keikis took off and started growing. As for what I do with them, nothing. I got one from Hakuunryu and it did notta for many, many months. I finally threw it away. If any of the others develope, I'll plop them in an envelope and mail to you Otherwise I'll just trim them off and be done with it. I find them ugly on the plant and I find they don't grow well (well I can't attest to Matsushima, but Hakuunryu didn't do anything but sit there.)

Ramon, do I see some leaves starting to yellow on your Mangetsu?? That might be a good sign! It may be getting ready to bud up. I was told to hold off on watering when the leaves yellow and drop. Then when those little bumps appear on the top half of the cane, start watering again. I don't know if all these things flower from the tops of the canes. I have 1 that does not. Remember when a bunch of us went crazy in the summer and ordered a bunch from Glenn?? I have one blooming for the 2nd time and 2 others in bud. Mine don't get any babying. Not even fertilizer, just in the moss mounds and filtered tap water. Yours are probably going to bloom anyday now!! You know I have my variegated leaf fetish so I love the presentation on yours! Lovely!

Those look great in their pots. What size pot did you get from the Mangetsu? I've been debating a pot from Erin Bonsai for mine.
