Default My "What the &^%*&% Moment Of The Day"

This plant is Den Zengyo Pink.
It is just about 5 ft tall with 7 spikes, and sits on a raised platform on my work table in the orchid room during our "winter months"...so I don't get to inspect the top portion very often.

This morning, I decided to bring it down to eye level so I could take a look at how the top is doing and found the strangest thing I have ever seen on my chids!

The thumbnails show the whole plant, a closeup of the blooms, a pic of what a normal bud looks like...and then the strangeness begins! There are 3 buds and a growth coming off of the end of what should have just one bud at it's end!

It is just too strange not to share it here with your guys

Sue, it almost looks like it was trying to be a branch from the main spike and then got confused. It will be interesting to see how it develops.

Only one of your plants would do this....did Laura have one of her "chats" with it?

Your plant is gorgeous. Tall, stright and simply beautiful.
I wish I could get my dens up to 5 ft tall with 7 spikes. I would be happy even if they had some "alien" buds like yours.
Hopefully you will post some photos of what develops out of this 'strangeness'. Inquiring minds want to know.

Lovely orchid room, Susanne! Yes, your Dendrobium is certainly a strange one. Will be interesting to see what it does so we'll look forward to more pics. The blooms on it now are very pretty.

So you got hit by the Western Florida Kenuten disease....serves you right for leaving those chids out at the pool unattended for so long,,,,and without the benefit of sunscreen....Sue, how could you!!!!
