Thanks Terri. I do not think that I have a digital photo of the flower of my plant. I may have a slide of it somewhere but I do not even know where to start looking. It does not flower for me regularly. When (and if!) it flowers again I will get a digital photo and post it. It may also be that it being grown in too much shade.

That could definitely be the problem. Mine is growing just a few inches under 2 T5 fls and in a south facing window. It gets at the very least Catt strength light.

Terri I grow all my orchids in an unheated greenhouse and the Cattleyas all flower but I agree my set up is too dark. Having said that my Dendrobium thyrsiflorum and Dendrobium chryseum, both of which are within an arm's length of the Dendrobium atroviolaceum have both just finished flowering. So I think that we have a combination of negative factors here : temperature and light.
