Default Den. atroviolaceum

This guy started blooming a while ago but it's now in full bloom. It's really an amazing plant. Not only does it have 7 blooming spikes but there are 10 more on the way, AND 8 new growths. This is the perfect Den. for people who kill Dens. It's on the smallish size, about 8" to from top to bottom. It gets bright Catt level light, weekly watering with 125ppm MSU, and likes to be warm though it will tolerate intermediate temps.

Terri, my absolute favorite of all Dends. are the Latourias, especially, atroviolaceum and yours is stunning!!!!!!!!

I don't know if you'll remember but when I saw your last thread on the atroviolaceum, it sent me into immediate action to find a vendor I finally got mine and not without a lot of head tripping from the vendor. I should have gotten it from H&R in Hawaii but didn't want to spend a pretty steep shipping charge. I ended up ordering it here, in the continental U.S. and after a week, phoned the vendor who told me that he had just found my address that he lost. OK. The following week I called to find out why I still hadn't received it and he told me that he ended up leaving town before he could ship it and would ship it out the following Monday, and.....once again, the following week I phoned him to see where it was when he told me that he didn't think I wanted it after all and never sent it but would ship it "tomorrow" if I wanted it. I finally got it last week.

Anyway, I'm now waiting for mine to bloom...any day now.

Beautiful! I have a hybrid of Den. (atroviolaceum 'Pygmy' x rhodostictum), it is called Den. Nora Tokunaga. The flowers remind me of little pit bulls, the way they stand there all bowed up! Definitely one of my favorite Dendrobiums. Den. atroviolaceum-den-nora-tokunaga-jpg

Some of the Latouria hybrids are just amazing to me. Yours is beautiful Jasen. I can easily see both parents in it. I also love Roy Tokunaga, Wonder Nishi, Maiden Charlotte and Stephen Bachelor. The list is way too long!

LOL Sandy! I hope the savings was huge!!! Can't wait to see yours in bloom!

I admit that I'm a Den killer, so this one sounds perfect for me! And it is so gorgeous. I can't believe how many spikes there are on it!

I agree with all the atroviolaceum lovers here. Mine is in spike but his 'chid Roy will beat him to bloom.

I love this family because you get spikes on old and new growths. Having a bouquet of blooms is better than a pot of empty canes to tend and look after. I think it is also easier to grow them because they don't need those cold, dry winters when you watch the canes shrivel.
