Default I'm an orchid dumb-bell

Totally confused here and I know someone will be able to shed a little light, my way.

I went to the orchid show in Delray today and left with a Dendrobium dearie. The vendor told me to keep this is low light ("Phal light is perfect", he said), to keep the plant moist and depending how cool it's kept, might or might not, lose it's leaves and either way, will bud/bloom beginning in February. I got home and did a search and Dendrobium anosmum "dearie" is all I found.

So........................

Is this one in the same? And if so, the culture tips given, totally confuse me because I keep my anosmum, dry this time of year. The pic of the flowers (on the display table) were pure white. Is anosmum and dearie, different or the same and, wrong growing advice given?

I plead total ignorance. Thanks for your help, here.

I believe Dendrobium dearei is the correct spelling.

Weebl is correct, it is Den. dearei. There is also a Den. anosmum var. dearei as well as a Den. superbum var. dearei. If your tag has Den. dearei then we can assume that is what it is. When it blooms we will definately be able to tell since your flower should be white, as the other two should have a different shape and should be purple. Gosh I love OrchidWiz!

Sandy, sorry I didn't get to see your den before you left. Who did you get it from? I ended up with a phal bellina from Odom and 7 plants from Carmela. Wasn't it a great day! Good luck with your new den. Sorry you had to leave so soon. Keep in touch for the next local show, ok? It was nice meeting you!

Hi Sandy,

I found a dendrobium that has the same pronunciation as I would think it to be with your spelling, but it is spelled Den. derryi. Even though the photo doesn't show white blooms, here is a link for you to see for yourself:

Den. derryi

Just another possibility for you.

OK guys, this is great. I knew I had read about this Dend. in the past. I thought, maybe there was yet another, name change.

Yes, it's dearei. That'll teach me to wear my glasses more often.

David, Is your Vanda scouting a ribbon? I'll have to read the latest posts here....I hope it won! I couldn't get over what I was seeing....outrageously gorgeous.

Susan, I was glad to get the hour away from my other responsibilities for this show, I needed it! It was sooooo nice meeting you too. I ended up buying from Mac's Orchids. He doesn't have a nursery open to the public but says he travels to all the shows. He was in the lobby, right up against the gift shop. He had mostly Dends, humongous ones (anosmums and others deciduous which looked nothing like the dearei which is why I ended up so confused...). What did you end up with? I'll start reading the posts here to see what you got.
