I have been able to flower Den. Bardo Rose but none of the other Kingianums or its hybrids. It is just too warm in Florida. For example, the morning low was 72F and the current temperature is 84F at 12:30. I will just have to get my pleasure from pictures. That's why picture sharing is so important. You can enjoy the flowers of other growers of the plants that you can't grow.

Thanks everyone for the lovely comments!
Jerry, you are so right! I feel the same way when I see photos of those warm and hot growing orchids that people in warmer climates can grow so well. I know that I can't grow them here, so, like you, I enjoy seeing the photos that you and others post here.
Its important that we all find plants that are suited to the enviromments we can provide - and its just wonderful that the orchid family is so diverse that there is literally something for everyone!

The next plant has started opening its flowers. The colour isn't as distinctive as the other plant, however, this one has 19 spikes, and each spike has at least 6 flowers, whereas the other plant only had 3 flowers per spike and 5 spikes.

19 spikes??? How big is this plant? I really must get one of these hybrids. Boy am I looking forward to spring shopping! I'll have to take a better look at the photo on a pc at school tomorrow. I can hardly see a thing on my laptop, the screen's backlight is dead.

Hi Camille, This one is in a 16cm pot. A couple of this year's canes have produced two spikes - I think it really enjoyed the summer outside! Well over 100 buds to open!

I think that these hybrids might actually suite my growing conditions better than the normal kingianum. I only got it this summer, but I don't know if I will be able to give it the cool, dry and bright winter it needs to bloom. I'll know in the spring when I see blooms or not. If the hybrids just need to be chucked outside for the summer in order to bloom, they sound perfect!
And when you have time, think you could post a pic of the entire plant? i'd love to see it!
