Dendrobium flowering cycle
Default Dendrobium flowering cycle

When is the bloom time for dendrobium .I have have one - light green with maroon (burgandy color) lip flower. 2007 June/july i purchased it and it had blooms at that time. no blooms in 2008 yet. I have kept it outside to see if that helps it to flower. How often should this orchid plant be fertilized? thanks,

please do not post questions in the articles section - it is only there to post articles, when you have some significant information you want to share with the community. questions should be posted to the appropriate forum. (check the forums link on the left) you are more likely to get a good response if you post to a forum.

you may also want to go edit your profile in the User CP (link at top of page) and enter your location. this will give others a better idea about your growing conditions, so they may be able to give you better advice.

different dendrobiums have different flowering times and conditions, for example some will only flower in spring after a dry winter with a 20 degree difference in temperature between day and night, while others will flower during summer or winter, and may not need the dry rest period. if you can, get some pictures of your dendrobium, and ask in the dendrobium forum to find out which type yours is.

most orchids can be given a weak fertilizer once a week. check your fertilizer package for instructions.
