Baffled!
This is my Den Zengyo Pink which has a number of spikes throughout the canes. About a week ago, the middle cane started turning yellow and has gotten worse. It has 2 spikes on it that I can see and I have absolutely no idea what happened to this cane!
Any ideas?

I don't have an answer, but my Dend is in it's first spikes and some of the old canes have yellowed. It's dropped a few leaves also. I thought maybe it was too young / small / weak to have spiked now?? I was just watching it to see what happens.... I have no clue, but it seems the same sort of thing....

Hey Tik
Thanks...hopefully somebody will come up with a reason for this. It's so weird for it to be in spike yet look so bad, and for the rest of the plant to be fine

Had to re-write this one...
To me, it looks as if that yellowing cane is an older growth... it looks as if it's "shedding" its leaves off... it will most likely still bloom off that cane though.

Dendrobiums are devil plants, that is why it's dying. You were too happy with it, so it's trying to bring you back down by killing itself.

I won't allow it...and if you need the name of somebody to talk to about your dendrobium obsession, I'm sure we can help you

I don't have a Dend obsession. Definitely an aversion to the little hellspawn though.

I'm not convinced the dieback is normal for that cane. There is a streaking present that doesn't look normal. Also the stem appears streaked. Mine just lose leaves from the base one by one till the whole pseudobulb is naked. Takes months. This appears to be happening quickly. If you can, check the base and see if something has bored (or eaten) into the stem.
