Hard Cane Pot Size

Any guidance on sizing pots for hard cane dens.?

I have a few that are doing well, over 2' tall and in 2" - 3" pots (I think they are the pots the plants came in several years ago) that like to fall over in the breeze or have to be leaned against something for them to standup.

Do these like a tight fit or can I put them in 6" pots and let them spread out?

I was just reading up on this myself. According to my reference books, they like to be pot-bound. It says it is best to try and use a clay pot to give it more stability as they can get top heavy, as yours is. If not, put the potted pot inside a larger heavy pot to keep it from tipping. Always be aware that they have sufficient air flow. Another book suggests hanging it or when repotting, put something of weight in the bottom of your pot.
If it's in a 2-3" pot now,perhaps go to a 4" pot. Just a tad bigger.

Dens can drive you alil crazy with the top mass VS the bottom mass - they just don't work well together for us
Pot these up according the roots size. I always allow 30% of space for room for new roots to grow in.
You can place them in larger clay pots to steady them upright, even fill up with rocks if you need.

I think they drive everyone a little crazy. Ive stopped with the standards and now I am exploring the compact ones, especially those that can be mounted. They do wonders mounted. Watch for the standards, if you let them get too happy you will end up with sky scrapers instead of canes, one of mine reached three feet before i passed it to a freind, it is now approaching five feet and hasnt bloomed in two years. I think i dodged a bullet.
