Sarah, it is a biggie. It's in a 6" azalea pot, and stands about 24" tall maybe more. It's definitely a space hog, that's why I threatened to ditch it if it didn't perform!
Thanks Terri, that's what I thought. I think the size is what makes it extra cool. But I agree that is could be a problem 'chid if it wasn't rewarding you with some blooms. It would be like a big houseplant taking up space.
Sarah, just in case you want to think about it..... I had to laugh at the "always blooming" part. Maybe my plant stayed home from school the day that taught that.
Thank you for the link! Do you grow this one under your lights? Also what group (according to the sticky) would this one belong too? And with that I won't bother you anymore!
Wow! I had to go back 6 generations to ferret out all the species in this cross. It has Den. phalaeonopsis, schulleri & tokai on both sides with a drop of discolor on one side for good measure.
I'm growing mine like a type V, warm year round, no winter rest. Of course I may need to research these other species to figure out where they fall on the chart. I may not be growing it right and that's why it's taken so long to bloom.
Yes, I'm growing it under lights on my shelf in the window. I found that it liked the top shelf better in the winter as it was a little warmer. It was on the bottom shelf when it started it's first spike that blasted. I think it got too cold. I'm not positive though.
