Cool Hello All!

I have finally decided after much deliberation to grow only 3 types of orchid alliance members.
Dendrobiums
Cattleyas
Oncidiums

Yah, I know..they have HUGE amount of species and hybrids in their alliances...
Aside from all the other ones I have, I will concentrate on these and MOSTLY on the Dens. Find them fascinating and such a variety of colour/shape.
What made me decide on this. Well I was lucky enough to go help my orchid society to set up at a orchid show (in February). At the show, while setting up...I noticed that some of the other societies had finished their displays and was intrigued to see what they had.
We finally finished our display, and off I went. Some beautiful flowers and interesting colour combinations.
Then I saw it...Dendrobium Wonder Nishii "Mary" CCM/AOS

OMG!
It was amazing specimen (please see my album...under orchid shows), and the flowers were so unusual! The display was built around it and all the other orchids seemed to bow to its glory.
...now I am trying to find one for sale here in Canada or from a greenhouse that will export them to Canada. Have had absolutely no success so far. Located 3 places that had them, but they won't ship to Canada.
If anyone who reads this knows of a greenhouse or grower who has keikis/divisions/seedlings for sale...PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for your time!

...will have a lot of pics to post soon of my budding Dens and other orchids !

allaKAZAAM, if you don't have any luck finding that hybrid look for the species parent. I think they're actually cooler. Den. Wonder Nishi = Den. atroviolaceum x Den. alexandrae. I just got Den. atroviolaceum and it has the same growth habit and flower shape as Wonder Nishi. I got mine from H&R in Hawaii. They ship internationally but there is a $500 minimum order and you must provide a copy of your CITES import certificate. I love the Latouria section of Dendrobium too. You might also consider Den. rhodosticum, and Den. spectabile. Good luck in your quest!

Yah...sorry...!

I have looked at the parents of the D. Wonder Nishii, and I will eventually get them (maybe sooner than getting a Wonder Nishii!). Though the only grower in Canada that has almost all the Dens on my wish list (see below!!)...is Paramount Orchids in Alberta. I just LOVE cruising their website...so many orchids, and I have so LITTLE space!
I have even contacted them about my search for the rare Wonder Nishii.
There are a few other growers in Canada how have the others ones I would like. But, cannot find all...unless I go through the USA.

WISH LIST
(ones Paramount have)
* D. harveyanum
* D. johnsiae
* D. macrophylum
* D. spectabile

(ones I cannot find yet in Canada)
* D. alexandrae
* D. aphyllum
* D. atroviolaceum
* D. discolor
* D. stratiotes

These are only what I have seen so far that REALLY interest me. I have ordered a book from Amazon, called "The Dendrobiums". It is almost 1000 pages and in hardcover, quote from Amazon:
"...With descriptions of 650 species in the genus, including habits and flowering biology, a guide to species identification and culture, a historical review of the genus, a survey of Dendrobium evolution and distribution, more than 600 color photos, and a bibliography with more than 900 entries, this is the ultimate resource on the genus. Awards for this book: International Association for Plant Taxonomy Engler Medal..."

Already Have
(either in flower/budding/resting)
* D. bigibbum
* D. Mingles Sapphire
* D. Proud Appeal "Ace"
* D. atroviolaceum "Pygmy" x "Little Elf"
* D. kingianum (Pink)
* D. kingianum Alba
* D. Vorawit Blue
* D. crumenatum
* D. denudans

When I decide to get into something...I go all the way, or not at all!

So looking forward to seeing what other delights the Dens. will have for me.

Thank you for the HEADS-UP!
I saw the one for sale on eBay about three weeks ago...but the vendor was in the USA, and would not ship to Canada.
