Becca.
My condolences for your plant.
Fluffylily.
It seems that you just received your plant in the mail or by other carrier. The single flower on the plant should be very white, with some purple spots on the petals & purple stripes on its lip. It shouldn't be yellow unless it is old or was in the box too long ... or it was subject to ethylene in the box or too cold temps during shipping. Otherwise, healthy flowers should last 2-3 months.
The issue with the new growths is also not uncommon. This type of den (the latouria section) is very tough & very easy to grow if you give good drainage & ample water. They can withstand a range of light conditions & temps. But if they are grown lush in warm conditions (as in a warm greenhouse) then shipped in a box & subject to very cool temps, the tender young growths with unopened leaves can be prone to something like cold burn to lettuce in too cold a portion of your refrigerator.
The mature leaves & pbulbs are ok. Only the soft newly emerging leaves & immature pbulb are affected. Even the unopened basal growth is usually ok. When I have gone to foreign shows where it is cold & I don't get access to our shipped boxes for 5-6 days, the plants are fine, but the soft new growth on some latouria dens sometimes gets the cold wilt. Fortunately the latouria dens have ample canes, so we just use a clean blade to cut off the affected growth at the base The cut dries off quickly & the plant is fine. Sometimes, we just cut off such tender growths before shipping.
Concerning the watering. The newly emerging growth has slender leaves which form a deep receptacle that could sometimes trap water & damage the new growth ... especially if it is cold or too humid with poor air movement. Use a plastic squeeze bottle to get water under such growths or just avoid the new growths.
