Default Dendrobium Cuthbertsonii

Hi!

I just ordered a Dendrobium Cuthbertsonii that Will arrive later this Month. My plan for this plant is that i Will keep it in a biobottle with integrated led and with ventilationholes at the top.

In the bottle i Will use gravel and moss filled with water in the bottom to create maximum humidity.

I live in sweden so the temps here is quite cold. Does anyone have any experience with growing Cuthbertsonii in a microclimate?

First, Welcome!

Having killed multiple Den. cuthbertsonii over the years (I'm an outdoor grower, it's the summer warmth that slowly did them in) I have given up. They do love humidity, pure water, and a temperature range that doesn't go above about 23 deg C (75 deg F), with cooler nights, they would prefer days that are cooler, too. So wishing you luck and success!

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

Have a look at some notes I took at a lecture. The speaker Alan Koch mentioned how he grows Den. cuthbertsonii. It should appear in red highlighting if you click this link:

Never did them in a microclimate. But grow them similar to Alan. I find that the cooler nights, and water quality are the key to success.

Hi!
Then i Will start with the following:
- Grow it with high humidity
- Water it with distilled water
- the temp will be around 19-20 celsius.

Thanks all for your feedback!

Hi! A Quick update of my setup before my cuthbertsonii arrives. I have aquired a biobottle with with integrated LED and epiweb cane and spghanum Moss. I also have a small water pump and a soft spray nozzle that will apply water and create humidity. I also have 4 ventilation holes at the top. Is there any feedback you have for my setup? See
attached picture.

Welcome! I'm also from Sweden (Halmstad, Lund, Malmo) but living in the US since 2000.

I'm just wondering, will there be enough air movement in that space?

Hi Arne! Oh, where do you live? Nice to hear! Yes i am wondering about that too. I have a plan to install a micro-fan for the air circulation. Im just not sure how much circulation the 4 holes will create.
