Dend. polyanthum Male
Default Dend. polyanthum

This species is from the Himalayas. It is a medium sized, pendant plant and hence it is suggested that grown on the slab.
The flower is about 1.5" wide, appearing only on the pseudobulbs developing the former year. Mine is poor grown next year and has fewer flowers than usual.

I have one of these, but because of some discrepancies of nomenclature, I've had some real problems finding culture info. It was sold to me as Den. cretaceum, but apparently the name Den. polyanthum has precedence, so that explained why searches for cretaceum returned little. Searches for polyanthum return more relevant hits, but still, almost no actual culture information. So far, I've been caring for it using information from searches of a third name, Den. Primulinum, that seems to also be a possible name for this plant.

I was hoping someone could tell me how to take care of it - light, watering, temp... everything - and maybe definitively tell me what this plant is called. Another question I have about it is once a cane has grown, dropped its leaves, and flowered, does it ever grow new leaves before it flowers again? Does it even ever actually flower again?

It has grown a new 10'' cane since I've had it, so I think I am doing something it likes. I'm keeping it much dryer than I had been once we came into the part of winter when we have the least amount of light around here, as I grow it in a South East window, and leaf-drop is about half-way done, which I'm guessing is what's supposed to happen - the cane still looks very normal, so I'm not worried. I am just guessing, though, at what I ought to be doing. Help!
