Dendrobium Swiss Mountain Palace
Dendrobium cuthbertsonii for the rest of us... no wine cooler needed. This one is Den. cuthbersonii x Den. Mtn's Butterfly Kisses (Den cuthbertsonii x glomeratum/sulawesiense) So it's 3/4 Den. cuthbertsonii. This one was made with the yellow/orange bicolor form of cuthbersonii. You have see RJ's Mtn's Buterfly Kisses which was made with the white/pink bicolor form. There are as many variations on the theme as there are Den. cuthbertsonii color forms, a lot.
Even diluting the primary hybrid with another dose of Den. cuthbertsonii, the warmth-tolerance imparted by the Den glomeratum is still there. (After many failures, well beyond the 3 that I usually allow myself, trying a wide variety of approaches that even sometimes worked for a couple of years, I have truly sworn off buying and killing Den. cuthbertsonii,) This plant went completely deciduous last winter, all 4 of the the flowers have appeared on leafless canes. But there's a new crop of nice leaves, next year's flowers, or I may get another group of flowers, from those new growths, in September or October.
