Here is my other Dendrobium spectabile that I bought 6 or 7 years ago. It's what originally got me into growing orchids. It's gotten so large and unruly that I've been neglecting it lately. Maybe that's what it needed to bloom.

I grow it outdoors until its about 55 at night, indoors during the winter. It seems to like it constantly wet as long as it's warm.

The blooms have a heady floral, honey fragrance that is nice.

It takes some time to grow but it’s wonderful

They are about 18 inches tall. I suspect it will get even taller…

So nice!! Mine has been putting out a lot of new growths, but I am thinking it's still about 5 years out from blooming. It's about 6 inches tall, but has 'short' and 'shorter' on the tag, so height might not be as much of a factor as age. Keep posting more pics while I wait

I think some nurseries have been selecting for strains with shorter growing habits, some blooming at a small size. Those parent names sound promising!

Congratulations! I have a bunch of advanced spectabile seedlings and also a larger plant the has yet to bloom. Like many of the latouria dendrobiums, the weather data suggests that this plant likes consistent warmth and moisture, but I get the feeling that minor temperature and watering changes may help induce flowering.
