I love the color mixes on this Den. It brings more "tropical" feels to the regular monotone Aussie Den.

The influence of Den. tetragonum. A nice species - the square pseudobulbs (hence the name) have spidery flowers with red stripes.

I like the color combinations. Too bad about the lack of fragrance, which I thought (based on many of those species in the background) would be respectable. I didn't realize that fragrance is one of those traits that get bred out. Strange that these produce so many keikis--which then flower while they're still attached to the main plant.

Like color, fragrance tends to be controlled by multiple genes. But think about roses... the newer ones, bred for other characteristics such as form and longevity, also tend to not be fragrant, while most of the old hybrids are very fragrant (the classic fragrant flower) In the orchid world, it's also the case with many of the newer Zygo hybrids - where most of the old classics are knock-your-socks-off fragrant, many of the newer ones aren't fragrant al all, or very little. It just seems to be very easy to lose that feature in complex hybrids.
