Den. Blue Seas - New Leaves Floppy
Default Den. Blue Seas - New Leaves Floppy

I got this Blue Seas last year and repotted it shortly after its arrival due to new roots having started.

This newest cane has grown a couple of leaves since it arrived, but these latest two aren't supporting themselves properly. I'm trying to figure out why. I would like to note that the first couple leaves it's grown since arriving were fine, and it's only these last two that seem to be struggling.

I water it when the pot is dry/nearly dry, and the roots are making their way throughout the pot. I am feeding the K-Lite from FirstRays (thanks, Ray! ) at 110 ppm twice a week. I currently have it in a South facing window that does get direct sunlight part of the day, and the leaves have a tinge of purple at the edges, so I think it's getting enough light.

The temps in my apartment are sitting at 68F/20C constant, but I do have it sitting on a seedling mat to provide a bit of extra warmth. This orchid is 50% Den. antennatum which is a cool to hot grower.

This cane hasn't finished growing but is starting a new growth at its base, which I've read can be typical for some of the antelope types. This is the only one of my larger antelope types that is growing a cane right now, so it's the only one with the problem.

Any guesses as to why the newest leaves aren't standing upright on their own?

Floppy Den. leaves can be from insufficient light or water. I suggest not letting any Den. making new growth get anywhere close to dry.

Perhaps put a thermometer in the pot. It might be warmer than you think.
