Hmm, where'd you get hold of it. I am definitely in cuthbertsonii envy (and out of it's preferred climate).

These hybrids of Den cuthbertsonii with warmer-growing Dens are great for those of us who love the look but don't have a cool environment like a wine cooler. Den cuthbertsonii x sulawesisnse (glomeratum) which is DEn. Mtn's Buterfly Kisses crossed back to Den. cuthbertsonii (to make Den. Swiss Mountain Palace) and it grows well for me while I have consistently killed Den cuthbertsonii after a year or two. (I have stopped trying to grow them...) The appearance of the flowers is Den. cuthbertsonii on steroids. RJ. where did you get yours? (Mine came from a friend) I have seen these in the Ecuagenera booth at shows - this combination, and also cuthbertsonii crossed with Den. laevifolium and I think with bracteosum. Same effect- makes a flower that looks a lot like cuthbertsonii but is much more forgiving of higher temperatures that most of us have to deal with some of the time.

I took a look at the Ecuagenera website, and they have a bunch of those cuthbertsonii x warmer growing Dens - various combinations. Den Gaëtan Minet was actually made by Eucagenera.

very easy going and indeed you dont need to refrigerate these at night..

no direct sun. bright filtered light in a window works fine.

they still like to be on the cool side of 80 degrees but they dont wilt if it gets a little warm.

does well grown in the trinity of orchiata sponge rock and charcoal

Seriously, I've kinda wanted a sulawesi (due to a recommendation from a book 30 years ago?) and who wouldn't love it crossed with a cuthbertsonii? So, this ticked two boxes.
I do hope it flowers more in mass than this though *lol*. Tell me it does?

You still need that sulawesiense (glomeratum, same thing) So different - big and brilliant (The contrast of the dayglow hot pink flowers and the dayglow little orange lip is spectacular) Actually, pretty amazing how the hybrid looks so much like the cuthbertsonii parent, just picks up some warmth-tolerance. So definitely not an "either or" situation, more like "both and".

I umm killed a glomeratum once, through neglect. I did not realize it was essentially the same species. Lol, well then umm I hope I appreciate and love this one more than the previous victim.

I have a habit when things get really really stressful (about every ten years it seems), to stop taking care of plants and only the true survivors make it to my recovery. Luckily, I had a stressful episode of dealing with my father's hospitalization/institutionalization and the cleaning and sale of his house only two years ago and do not consider myself due for great trauma any time soon.
