Is this Den amabile still worth a purchase at this state?
One of my neighbor is selling away her entire orchid collection as she have became tired of watering them.
She is going to sell this Den amabile for 50, is it still worth the purchase even thought it looks this lanky and dehydrated?

Can you attempt to barter her down a bit? To me (and this is my opinion only) the roots and "cane" basal growths are the most important part of the plant. But also I would not pay premium prices for a fixer-up plant. I compared a few and saw them for 69, and 89 (on Etsy), and they were somewhat more filled out, but just as mature. Also if you buy from a remote place, you also have to pay for shipping, so you have saved that.
Price is a bit stiff for a rescue. But don't worry too much about leaflessness... these tend to be semi-deciduous. But now that it's spring, if the roots system is decent it should be starting to grow. I can't tell what the medium is... looks a but like sphagnum in which case, it needs to be moved to bark to improve drainage and aeration of the roots. I'd suspect that the root system needs some tender loving care.
It should grow outside quite nicely where you live. Filtered sun or bright shade.
