I always seem to have Australian dendrobium that funny open fully. But I love the flowers.

Anybody have advice on why they may not be opening fully?

I suspect that some of the parents just don't... This one is half Den. speciosum... some (maybe even most) cultivars don't open fully. The ones that do are in the photos of course... the ones that get awards. But some just don't, and that may get passed on to their progeny,

Another thing that I have noted about Dens, especially the Aussie ones... they tend to partially close toward the end of the day especially when newly opened. So they may look their best around mid-morning, by mid-afternoon a close a bit, to perk up again the next morning,

I bought two of these, when Fred first released the cross. The flowers opened fully on both.

One was relatively pale (I sold it without taking a photo), while the other had clear strong markings. That 2nd plant, Den. Australian Robbie McInnes 'Fair Orchids' just earned an AM/AOS:

Could just be first bloom related. Mine was similar in color when it bloomed previously. Mine is currently getting a nice winter rest.

I did not get a picture, but I noticed yesterday morning that the flowers were much more open and by nightfall they had closed up again.

I might have to take it to work to enjoy. LOL

As flowers mature they stay fully open longer,... And holidays may give you some mornings when you don't have to work, and can properly enjoy these,
