Dendrobium Normanbyense is found in the tropical rainforests of Papua New Guinea at a height of 700-900 meters where it grows on trees as a small-sized Orchid. The orchids of Papua New Guinea sometimes get referred to as PNG orchids.
Originally one thought it was a smaller variant of Dendrobium Atroviolaceum but now it I considered a Species of its own. The name does most likely not exist because someone named Norman identified it(that was P.J. Spence 11 years ago) but because it is found on the Normanby Islands.
At mine it grows in my living room at a height of 102 cm. This orchid is approximately 10 cm tall and the flower stem about 5 cm taller. Unfortunately I do not have any trees in my living room so I can't offer what it gets in nature but I mentioned it because it looks like I have more experience that way or that I even wandered about in the rainforest like an explorer and found it.. But my story is not that exotic. It was bought in a regular orchid shop. Grows in a self watering pot and gets watered twice a month. Light was reduced under 11 hours in October. I think that started the flowering although its my first flowering with this species.
It's supposed to be the parent of the micro-chip hybrid.
