Default Dendrobium Phoenix?

Hey all! I went to the Toronto Artistic Orchid Society show and put WAY too many pictures in the gallery

http://www.orchidboard.com/community...ry.php?cat=950

My mom also picked me up two new plants! The Dendrobium is tagged..... but I can't read chinese characters, and they said they didn't have an equivalent for the name in english, but it equated to something like "Phoenix" so that's what I'm calling it. (Anybody who can readchinese, wanna send me a pm with a phonetic spelling of the chinese name, I'd love you forever ) The other one didn't have a tag, but the vendor said it was an Epi. x Catt. Hybrid that was to be grown like a catt. I thought it was unusual, and I like it. It has a very very faint scent.

I don't know Chinese either, but it looks like a real happy camper, and the epicat is really nice. Way to go!

Nope don't know Chinese myself but try this tool...I have a translation tool and it does not find Phoenix, but at least it has a name. Your dend is so pretty, love the purple tips. I have one pretty comparitive to it but lighter. A faint fragrance.

Couldn't tell you what either are really called. It's all chinese. Epicatt isn't really that big. The whole plant is only maybe 14 inches tall

Phoenix is much taller, and a nobile type? I know it goes to sleep for winter.

Hello! Had to ask my friend for a little help on the translation - The top of the tag says:

"Dend. Chun She Hu" (Not sure what it means - probably the name of a place)

And the bottom says:

"Huo Feng Huang" ('Phoenix')

Sorry couldn't be more help - it's probably not an RHS registered hybrid...and if it is, it may have been renamed somewhere along the line. The second plant looks like it has epidendrum stamfordianum as a parent ... I could have sworn I've seen that cross before at another show but I'm not sure what the catt parent is!

No problem at all - glad to help! oooh I may have an ID for you for the Epc too! I *knew* I saw something similar before!

Check out Epc Kyoguchi (C aurantiaca x epi aromatica) - I took this pic at the SOOS show 2008

It looks a little more yellow but it could just be the exposure and the way the lighting was. What do you think? I did see the vendor selling these at the TAOS show (he had a whole bunch, right?), and they looked really similar to the Epc Kyoguchi I saw before.

(still haven't figured out how to do that nifty expand picture link thing....I copy and pasted the linked thumbnail url from the gallery but it still ends up as a photo link rather than that cool expanding picture thing..oh well )
