Thanks. I haven't noted any fragrance, but didn't get my nose close to it, now it's dropping flowers so will have to wait for next year to check it out.

Beats me. The genus has only 2 members, making it a prime candidate to lump with something else. How that "something else" was determined must get down into the weeds of DNA analysis. I leave that to the botanists.

i think they should just call it a gramm and be done with it lol, then it would at least look like the rest of the Genus lol

Grammatophylum is related to Cymbidium... another puzzle. But Gramm and Cym do breed so clearly there is a relationship even if the plants don't look like it. Inobulbon and Dendrobium? I wonder if anybody has even tried... I'd seriously doubt that they are close enough. Epigeneium is another genus that got lumped in to Dendrobium. That's even more of a puzzle since there are lots of species. And the genus Dendrobium is so large, and so varied, I wonder what even is the commonality. But then, I'm just a simple orchiholic, not a botanist or biochemist.
