Default Dendrobium jairak splash

Hi everyone,
I bought a Dendrobium jairak splash mounted.
Could someone help me with some instructions for its survival?
I read that someone has potted it, but I would prefer keep it mounted.
When it'll arrive I'll show you.
Thanks

See what it looks like when it arrives. The "pot vs. mount" decision is based on your conditions - mounted plants need much more frequent watering, If you are growing other mounted plants, than it should be fine. If you have trouble keeping them hydrated, then consider potting.

Beautiful plant! If you can't keep it well-hydrated as a mounted plant (and unless you have a greenhouse with daily watering you probably don't) I would suggest putting the whole thing (mount and plant together) in a pot or basket with large medium (keeping it very well drained is important). There is no need to try to unmount it, that would just damage good roots and there would be no benefit.

My Jarak splash lives in my bathroom, it's in fairly coarse bark and about every 5 days it goes for a shower (since it's in the shaded south facing window in the shower). It's been there for at least three years, and it blooms dependable on each new growth (2-3 times a year)
I occasionally fertilizer it (maybe once a month), but otherwise, it just does it's thing happily. It's definitely an easy grower, like most biggibum parentage dendrobiums.
It does seem to love strangling itself (no harm done) with it's burgeoning roots up into the foliage.

According to Orchid Wiz - bright, hot, lots of water except in the cooler months.

Orchids on mounts need water every day. When it is hot they need water twice a day.

I have had moderate success with to Tolumnias. Some are doing very well and others just seem to slowly sicken and die no matter what i do. I guess if I understood the genetics better I would understand why.

Anyway, the best advice I’ve heard with tolumnias is to imagine their natural growing environment. In the West Indies, high up in coast brush vegetation, with constant tropical sea breeze (or persistent trade winds) blowing through the branches. Not much shade or shelter from the elements. Lots of rain but as they are in such exposed places (basically twig-epiphytes) drying out very quickly after a good shower.

It always surprises me when I go to tropical places how windy they are near the sea.

So I’d mount them, give them lots of light, lots of air movement, frequent watering but let them dry out between.

I grow them potted because it’s convenient to me, but I’m sure mine would do better mounted. I keep them right at the edge of my shadehouse, where the light is brightest and they are exposed to the sea breezes which blow across the bay.
