crumenatums are easy growing plants . leaves drop after some time but canes will live and bud will come on it.
Therefore keep the canes even .
I found a three feet long log and I tied the plant on it. with coconut husk rope and with some husks .You can used moss instead or try to use coconut husks.
keep the log in a shady palce.
Southwest VA means where about? I suppose you can keep them in the garden in spring time.
They grow wildlike. Some canes grow 10 inch longer even .We get heavey bushes here.

I grew these guys mounted and within years, they got soo big and long that they almost crowded out the host tree. I grew them in hot, humid (80%) and airy condition, watered them twice a day (more like misting their roots). They were accustomed to full sun for me and did very well. That was my very first succesful orchid.

Oh yeah, I'd definitely go for mounting these guys. Try to get as much humidity and light as possible, Remember, I could grow them in full sun, with lots of air movement. It doesn't need a huge piece of mount, however, it needs a lot of space lol....the canes can get very long if they like the environment.
Here's how you will go about mounting these:
-Placing moss on the mount
-Putting the orchid on top of the moss
-Secure the whole thing with wire
Gradually orchid roots will grow into the moist surface of the moss and secure itself to the mount, and you will be set to go. The best time to mount these guys is when you see new roots forming. It will have the best chance of survival that way.
The whole plant when they gets big will have a cascading look. The way to determine if they have enough sun is when you see red/maroon freckles on the surface of the leaves and the cane. Most daily or twice daily when mount. Always keep air moving.
Good luck with your plant and post some picture for us to see,

you see now my crumenatums are blooming again.Bec we got rains . beautiful white pigeons .
2 2/1 inches pots are too small for them. They can grow into big, bigger bushes . and flowers are coming on every cane and more canes , provide more buds.
