Default dendrobium elated laina

A friend wants to give me a very young, neglected Dend elated laina. Before I take it I want to know more about this hybrid. I googled it and looked it up in Bluenanta but in both I can only find Dend Elated - no Laina.

Does snyone know anything about the Elated Laina?

I grab whatever orchids I can get.

Seriously, from what you wrote, my best guess would be 'Laina' is a cultivar name. If so it should grow like and look a lot like other Den. Elated clones, with or without cultivar names. There is a photo of Den. Elated without cultivar name on the St. Augustine Orchid Society Web page. This plant probably will look a lot like that.

I found references online to cultivars 'Beatrice' and 'Carmela' but not 'Laina'.

It has ancestry in the Latouria group. My observation here on Orchid Board, and at home, is that people who run into trouble with this group are letting them get dry between waterings. They decline rapidly unless they stay evenly moist.

Yes I too found the Latouria ancestry and am aware of their water requirements. I have a couple.

I agree with you about Laina probably being its cultivar name. I was hoping to find it but I guess we'll see how much it resembles the straight Elaited when it blooms" hopefully next year. If I'm not fond of it I can always put it on the raffle table at my society meeting.

Thanks for posting.

Edit: I found out from another orchidist that the cultivar name is ‘Liana’ not ‘Laina’. The tag was misspelled.
