Default Dendrobium lanyaiae

I have the opportunity to buy a hobby flask of 5 Dendrobium Lanyaiae for a really good price from Laos. I adore it and it's perfect for me according to Jay's : Mini, cold to warm growing and drop dead gorgeous! But before I buy it, anyone have any experience with it? If it needs high humidity it won't work for me.
Dendrobium lanyaiae

Edit: I think it's Den. lamyaiae and not lanyaiae

I don't know about the conditions it needs but I do know I love this orchid! It's gorgeous...kind of the big brother of Den unicum

FYI: It's spelled both ways, apparently. Orchidwiz has both as entries.

No information in OW for humidity Sorry

Let us know what you decide

That is a pretty cool looking Dendro! On the IOSPE site, it says that these guys are often found in conjunction with langan or Lam Yai fruit trees. If you look up cultural conditions for these trees, you'll probably have found the neccessary conditions for this Dendro by proxy. Here is one site: Longan Growing in the Florida Home Landscape
I bet that it needs decent humidity (60%) in order to do well. Try it anyway!!

So, I made up my mind to get the flask, but I just got an email back from the grower telling me that shipping by DHL is 60€, for a flash that costs 8!! If I get the flask, I have to give up the Neo..... I hate orchid dilemmas!

Hi Camille, that's a gorgeous Dendrobium... but hey, 60€ for shipping!!!!!???? That's ridiculous!!! where are they shipping from? in your case, and if was not clearly specified in their website, I would try to cancel the transaction...

I hadn't bought it yet, only discussed it with the grower. He's a french guy(really nice btw) who runs an orchid business in Laos, so the flask would be coming from the other side of the word!! He said he would check to see if he can find cheaper with other shipping companies, so now I'm waiting for an answer... The problem is since it's orchids, it has to be 1-3 day shipping. I don't know if the plants would survive 10 days travel by standard mail.
Also, these plants are at a special price. He's a member of the french orchid forum, and he gave us reduced prices. So I'm dealing directly with him via PM and not through the website.

wow, that would be cool, if he find a cheaper shipping company.

On the other hand, if you are aiming to have the species instead of giving a try to the Flask plants, you could order it from a nursery in europe. I think I have seen it in one of the german nurseries... I would have to check...

Thanks! I'll look into it if shipping is still too much. I would probably have to wait a few months to get it for my bank account to get over the major order I'm preparing!
