I wasn’t expecting to fall in love -OR- Dendrobium polytrichum

This little delicate plant was immediately attractive to me at the Miami show. I love a mount and I saw the swaying little leaves and then I noticed the beefy keiki and I was sold.

$25...a steal....and I saw the dried flowers and they were small but looked complicated and I was smitten

Today I was rearranging my plants and I had this fellow hanging on my supply shelves to just get acclimated to outside etc. I went by to get my shade cloth and saw it. I thought it was a moth at first and then my heart jumped when I realized it was a flower. A tiny, fringed, upside down amazing flower with a rich perfumed scent

The pics are terrible bc it was windy and I was using a phone but I’ll try again later.

congratulations! it's cute and the scent must be a nice bonus, too. i looked up photos and it looks like this guy can get pretty big... beware!!

Big orchids are my favorite! If I can’t lift it or can’t touch both ends with my outstretched arms then I am really in awe. Schoms have always been so enchanting to me for these qualities.

I appreciate the warning though. I have an old wine box I’ve been saving for some project, maybe I’ll mount the keiki on it and let her grow!

I love that. Probably one of those that pops out the occasional flower, sometimes a flush of them, whenever it feels like it. And does on very dead-looking stems (so don't tidy it up!)

I actually see several clusters of bud on many of the ‘dead’ spikes.

I freaking love these plants
