Dendrobium speciosum spike watch...
Den speciosum is finally spiking (5!) I have no idea which subspecies this is...
Hopefully I can keep the snails and caterpillars at bay. Can't wait.

I have grown one of these in my entire 45 years...the spikes were 36"-48" long.

Nicely done! It will be a good spring. Maybe add some snail bait to the pot? Or Sluggo Plus (which also has Spinosad, which may help against caterpillars too)

Spike update... a 6th spike is emerging!
It's getting a little precarious to move this thing around. Perhaps its time to stake these spikes.

I don't think you'll need to stake them - Den. speciosum spikes have a lot of substance... if they are pointed upward, that's the way they'll stay.

If you have problems with snails and slugs, you can wrap copper tape around the pot. That's my plan for the summer. No chemicals to full with and just one application.
