Default Dendrobium amethystoglossum

I've had this one for three years now. This year it grew it biggest cane yet since I have had it. The canes have lovely purple stripes that run vertically up them. It is starting to throw out spikes now and so far I have counted 9 spikes and about 8 more eyes that should hopefully develop as well. These bloom from old, leafless canes as well.

Awesome, congrats! This is such a wonderful den and is one of my favorites, I’ve always found it to be a good grower and a relatively easy one to bloom. The flowers may be short lived but it definitely puts on a pretty spectacular show. Looking forward to some bloom pics in a few weeks

Thanks and I will definitely post pictures once in bloom. Just looked at it yesterday and the spikes are really starting to develop and branch.

Here we go in full bloom! This is turning into one of my favorite Dendrobiums. The flowers are small, which I generally dislike, but they cluster so well that it is really a joy to look at.

Thank you both!

Jeff - I would highly recommend this one. It is quite forgiving, for me at least, and seems to not mind neglect too much. I have this one on my front walkway with two Den. Phals and a Catt. These orchids are separated from the majority of my other orchids, which are all on my back patio. So when I go to tend to the majority collection, I always forget about these 4 on the front walkway. They maybe, if lucky, get watered once a week. Then, when the seasons change and the sun shifts and they start getting blasted with direct sun, those 4 always get sunburn. I always feel bad that I didn't catch it sooner but they don't seem to mind. I've had the Den. Phals and the Catt. much longer than this amethystoglossum and even with the neglect they bloom profusely every year.
