Gosh, I hope this post is in the right place.

These are the 3 Dens in flower at my place at the moment. I'm chuffed to bits with them as this is the first time they have flowered for me.
All are tiny blooms and the photos are extreme closeups.
1st pic. Den. delicatum 'Appleblossom'
Middle pic Den. Ellen 'Lorna'
Last pic Den. kingianum 'Gordon's Red'

Not all of them are huge! Den. kingianum isn't all that large, and some of the new hybrids made with smaller Dens like Den. tetragonum also stay compact - and have some great colors too. In the SF Bay area they should grow well outside, can even tolerate a bit of frost.

Thanks neophyte.
As Roberta said some Dens can be quite small. Attached a couple of photo for size comparison. Photos taken this morning.
Speciosum can be huge but wow the show of blooms can make it worth the extra hassle.

eek, i'm situated south of the SF area and more inland so it can get quite hot over here... is that an issue?

No problem at all. If they get a little shading from direct mid-day summer sun, they will be fine - triple-digit (F) temperatures are OK... a blast of direct sun can push local leaf temperatures (on any orchid) into the "scorch zone" but a little shade manages that. The high ambient temps are of no concern at all. These are tough plants!

As Roberta says they are happy as in the heat.
We get some stinking hot days, and sometimes weeks at a time of scorching temps down here and they cope just fine.
The one parent of the delicatum is the kingianum, both are native Aussie lithophytes.
